Featuring the production wizardry of Juno-winner Mark Makoway (formerly of Canadian rockers Moist), The catchy hook-driven songs from Sherise Valley's debut CD 'Blackout' crackle to life with energy and thoughtful edgy lyrics. Full of accessible alternative pop-rock tunes, this CD has all the makings of a classic debut. You'll find yourself humming along to Sherise's honey-sweet vocals and big guitar hooks by the time the second choruses come along. Radio-ready 'Over the Border' currently loops on the Songwriter Universe playlist after winning the online magazine's international 'Best Song of the Month' contest in Dec, 2004. And tracks from the CD have already garnered airplay on college radio stations across Western Canada and the U.S. --months in advance of the CD's release. As a songwriter, Sherise was selected twice for British Columbia Festival of the Arts conferences. And her songs won two Canadian Factor grants. But Sherise isn't just another chick with a guitar pick. After three university degrees, Sherise Valley (aka Cherise Valerie Burda) rocks out at her day gig as a policy expert and director with Canada's leading environmental non-profit, the David Suzuki Foundation. In fact, PrintAction Magazine just listed her (Burda) as one of 50 most influential Canadians in graphic communications for her work on science-based alternatives to the destruction of Canada's rainforests. It's all fodder for the life experiences and insight that shine through in her tunes. But don't expect songs about trees. With influences as diverse as the Ramones, Lucinda Williams, Liz Phair, Yo La Tengo, and Radiohead, the tunes on 'Blackout' range from bourbon-inspired summer road songs ('Over the Border') to political commentary ('Looks Like War') to the sassy, sarcastic 'Sugar Mama'. 'Blackout' rolled off the presses in the summer of 2005. Sherise Valley is currently playing shows with her band, Love Debris, to promote it.
