The Odyssey Christopher Nolan Nordic 2-disc DVD edition

With the film The Odyssey, Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan has tackled one of world literature's most famous tales in a magnificent adaptation of Homer's ancient epic, The Odyssey. Following the success of Oppenheimer, Nolan returns with an ambitious adventure that combines Greek mythology, spectacular visuals, and a star-studded cast.

Matt Damon plays the Greek king Odysseus, who, after the end of the Trojan War, embarks on a perilous journey home to the island of Ithaca. The journey home develops into a years-long adventure filled with mythical creatures, divine powers, and life-threatening trials. Along the way, Odysseus must, among other things, confront the cyclops Polyphemus and navigate a world where the whims of the gods can determine the fate of humans. Back home on Ithaca, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus wait, while an increasingly desperate battle for the king's throne unfolds.

In addition to Matt Damon, the cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. The film was shot with IMAX film cameras and underscores Nolan's ambition to create a monumental cinematic experience, where practical shots and magnificent landscapes are key elements.

The Odyssey has – as one might be tempted to say, as expected – become one of 2026's biggest box office hits and Christopher Nolan's biggest commercial triumph to date. Since its premiere in July 2026, The Odyssey has grossed over 1.7 billion dollars worldwide, thereby surpassing the director's previous audience successes. Critics have also received the film extremely well, praising it for its impressive visual ambitions, intense action sequences, strong acting performances, and Ludwig Göransson's magnificent score. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Odyssey has achieved 94% positive reviews among critics and 96% among audiences, while the film has a Metacritic score of 88 out of 100. Thus, Nolan has once again managed to unite an ambitious film experience with both massive audience appeal and great critical acclaim.
