Arthur Banner
In Andalusia, the parents of five-year-old Rosa fear for her young, precious life as the Spanish Civil War encroaches on their town. Uncle Leo, mercifully, agrees to take her to England, ahead of Franco's advancing armies, with the help of the International Brigade who fought with the Republican army against the Nationalists. Rosa and her uncle help an injured English soldier on their way to England but his heart drives him on a daring journey back to Spain.
Meanwhile, in the Spanish Basque Country, the Alonso fishing family escape in their boat to Brittany, which was soon to fall under German occupation. Will the Alonsos be safe? Will Leo and Rosa find solace in England? Will these separated families ever return to their homeland? Will they have anything to return home to?
Find out in this evocative, historical novel where adventure, tragedy and romance twist and turn.
