Heroes of the 1st Infantry Division During World War II

This book is the first of three volumes containing the names and citations for members of the 1st Infantry Division with Last Names "R" to "Z", who were awarded the Silver Star during World War II. Entries also include personal information on individual recipients including date and place of birth, home town, and the case of posthumous recipients, their date of death and place of burial. This volume also includes the Division's recipients of the Distinguished Service Medal and the Soldier's Medal. The Book begins with a detailed history of the 1st Infantry Division from World War I to the Global War on Terrorism. It concludes with a series of detailed appendixes of all award recipients reflected in Volumes I - III, analyzing awards by such criteria as rank, specialty, unit, place of action and more. Also included is a detailed listing of the Division's most decorated heroes, as well as a listing of Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Soldiers Medal recipients by Home State and Town.
