Thin Places

These are not novels. They are my nightmares. Come let me pull them out from my soul and put them into yours.

Dear Potential Reader,

I only have nightmares. I never dream. My nightmares are upsetting. They leave me in a funk. I feel powerless, I feel ashamed. I feel guilty of things that only happened in a sleeping head. I feel scared. I've felt this way my entire life. So, while in college at Cornell University, I decided to start writing my nightmares down. I thought if I wrote them down, I could change the narrative, get something out of them. Or maybe at least come to understand the nightmares well enough to know why my subconscious was tormenting me.

I didn't make Ewan up so much as he coalesced from the better parts of my waking life. And he navigates these dark places, so that I don't have to.

Over the years, in trying to explain my nightmare habit to people, they would invariably say, "Have you tried lucid dreaming?" as if it's something you can watch a ten minute youtube video on and just get. When I started writing these books, youtube wasn't a thing.

So read on to get a glimpse into Ewan's travels through the Thin Places. But I will let you know. Some readers have come to me and said these books incite lucid dreaming, some experience hypnagogic hallucinations.

And some people have nightmares.

It's up to you whether you want to read on. But know this: I take no responsibility for how you react to the words written within.

A child vanishes on a transcontinental flight

Ewan Coles is an average person trying to get a better job. While on a flight from Perth to New York, Ewan meets a strange little girl who seems to know more about his books, and his dreams, than he does. The girl suddenly disappears and Ewan is tossed from his waking life into an unfolding dreamworld.

A woman vanishes from memory

Ewan manages to return home only to be confronted with evidence of a fiancé named Aimee whom he's never met.

A demon of his own design

A creature made of nightmare chases Ewan, threatening his loved ones in both the waking and dream worlds. He must seek out the missing girl and discover the truth behind his mysterious, missing Aimee before his life is consumed by the monster.

But first he must wake up.
He can't wake up.
Is he?
