Andrei Kokotyukha again addresses the topic of the Ukrainian insurgent movement during the Second World War. In the Black Forest in Volhynia, Ukrainians are fighting a deadly battle on three fronts: with the Germans, the Russians and the Poles. The protagonist - a former policeman from Mirgorod, a convict, a Soviet saboteur - is not easy to understand who is the enemy of his people. However, the innate desire for justice does not leave him in doubt as to whose side the truth is, but the rapid unfolding of the events in which he found himself, prompts him to defend it with arms in hand.
