According to the World Development Report of 1993, apart from tuberculosis (TB) and most recently HIV and AIDS, malaria exerts higher death toll among human beings worldwide than any other communicable disease. Because of these, the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1999 declared malaria control a global priority. This text bears intriguing findings regarding the current methods used to detect SP resistant genes in Plasmodium falciparum strain of malaria parasite making it a MUST read for researchers, health professionals, Scientists, academicians among others. It is a product of thorough and dedicated research spanning two years which was carried out by the author and others during drug sensitivity studies in East Africa.
