In deepest depths, where the legendary mer folk live in domed cities, there is a 'guest' being held in isolation for millennia. Seeming harmless, he lulls the arrogant younger members of the Hearing Council, the 'wise' Finned Ones, into foolish actions. Those actions have dire consequences; not just for the mer folk, but for the breathers above. An average nearly 18-year-old young woman, frumpy and unattractive senior high school student is arguing with her best friend. Bucky is gorgeous, brilliant and an amazing athlete. And in spite of his train of swooning followers, he chooses to hang out with his long time friend Rema Angelis. They are as different as chalk and cheese, but Bucky sees something in Rema that no one else does. Their lives are about to change radically brought about by circumstances neither has any knowledge about. It is here, their greatest tests await them. Everything they ever knew is tested. And Rema Vangelis faces the greatest challenges of her life. On these two hinge the salvation of the hidden nation of the elves. Who have not vanished as the humans supposed, but have lived and flourished in secret, away from even the most persistent prying eyes. No one has ever really believed in the fairy stories of elves and magic, so hiding is easier when no one believes in you anyway. Rema finds out, not only are elves true, but where she fits in the grand scheme of things, and what part she will have to play to keep their world alive. A tall dark handsome stranger opens up Rema to a whole new world of passion and commitment, testing her truths about what other creatures lurk in her 'safe' world. Not just the beautiful elves live and love in her world, but the loathsome and evil also flourishes in the shadows. Biding their time until they can come into the light and feed on all those who will allow their fears to take hold of them. But just when Rema and Bucky think things can't get any worse, they encounter the real nightmare that is behind the bloodshed, and who is also controlling the one Rema thought she could love and trust. It is a battle of attrition, dragged on until entire cities are full of the thinning, elves fading and dying, becoming empty husks who are unaware they are even dead. They haunt the city like ghosts, trying to recapture what was so cruelly torn from them. The darkness clings like a shroud over the town, allowing none respite from the shadows that feed on those trapped within. Somehow, the nightmare must end, but the price is much higher than anyone believed. Would any of them be brave enough to pay it?
