Ephraim Avery is a poor, retarded black boy who lives in the little town of Shamrock Cove, Kentucky where he is known as Crazy Eef. Eef is the butt of jokes and the object of pranks. But finally comes the ultimate insult. He is accused of raping a white girl. Her father believes the lie and takes his revenge on poor, innocent Eef. When Eef's body is found dead at the bottom of a cistern wrapped in barbed wire, the townsfolk have no doubt as to who is responsible and plot to call the murder an accident to protect their friend. However, Crazy Eef's ghost plans vengeance of his own and vows to make all of them pay for their lies and deceit. How will they pay? By losing a limb? The loss of a child? Losing a home?
