In order to clear his heart, he spent two days camping by the ocean at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island in Washington State. During that time he was blessed with a full day of transcendent experience, during which all the suffering in his life dissolved into a peace and understanding that passes normal understanding. For 24 hours, he stepped out of normal awareness, and fully felt the direct presence of the divine. Unable to adequately journal the experience in prose, he turned to poetry to help him lock it into his mind and heart.
