Willa MacLeod has it all--she's young, beautiful, and an up-and-coming rock star. Still, she can't help wondering whether her mother did the same before she disappeared into the Silverhorn almost three decades ago....

Silverhorn Crags. A fortress where people didn't go, because they couldn't. Other than crossing the uncrossable creek, the only way into the high country of the Silverhorn was to go hundreds of miles around through roadless wilderness to the east. The Native Americans had legends about the Silverhorn, and Idahoans in New Britton had embellished the stories for a century or more. Occasionally someone came to town and tried to uncover the Silverhorn's secrets. They left eventually, defeated by the impossible granite. Willa MacLeod believes the legend of the Silverhorn is real. Once every year she has made the difficult journey up the west bank of the Silverhorn from its confluence with the Middlefork to where the creek fell from sheer granite. If she can find a way to cross the creek, she might be able to find some unseen path up the granite of the east canyon wall. She is driven by the legend, as if something is calling to her from beyond the canyon. But, nearly 30 years ago, her mother was last seen walking toward Silverhorn Canyon before she disappeared forever. Was she, too called by that voice? Now, a fallen tree has created a natural bridge across the rushing torrent. And beyond the canyon, someone--or something--waits for Willa.
