Perception of mental health, and people that suffer from mental health issues, has come a long way from the tired old clichés of padded cells and gibbering people rocking back and forth in a corner. Whilst we've made leaps and bounds away from these stereotypes, we still have a way to go. It's increasingly evident that people of all ages, from all walks of life and from all backgrounds can struggle with their mental health. Rich or poor, young and old, no one is immune to its clutches. PoetsIN is a charity built on a foundation of the knowledge that words allow us to purge in dark times, that venting on a page can release inner turmoil and create a path through gloomy realms. Founded by two writers who suffer themselves from mental health blips and are, in turn, assisted by a dedicated team that battle the black dog; PoetsIN are here to smash through ancient walls of misconceptions and shout from the rooftops to stop the stigma attached to our mental health. Stop the Stigma is a collection of words and works written by service users and friends of PoetsIN groups in workshops and groups from all around the world. It contains poetry and prose covering a broad range of mental health topics, all submitted with one purpose in mind - to stop the stigma attached to mental health and to talk openly and unashamedly about something that should never be swept under a carpet of denial.
