In 1941, the young Adrian Fallows joins the army hoping for a new start far away from Birmingham. A posting to the naval base in Loch Ewe, Scotland, is certainly far away but will it be that clean, new start he craves? Or does it take more than miles? Almost 50 years later, a woman in West Berlin receives a letter which both disturbs and excites. Something has been found in the mountains of Scotland, something which requires her immediate attention. The past has secrets. They unfold slowly, unpredictably. What are we to do with them?
