On my own

This is Bellini's biographical story covering six different life periods of major importance. In part one it describes the Italian colonial times in Libya through two world wars, from its beginning in 1911 to the making of Colonel Qaddafi and his coming to power in 1969. In part two it relates the cultural impact of being a college student in London during the mid sixties. In Part three he describes his sobering experience of immigrating to Canada as a lonely and penniless young man, and the start of a successful career as a telecom engineer, along with marriage and family life with its own ups and downs. Part four takes Bellini to one more discontinuity in his life as he moves his family to London and then to Rome on a six-year expat assignment as a Senior Director with Nortel. Also in this part some of the more revealing business deals in developing countries, including Libya, are described in some details. In part five he returns to his home base in Toronto, Canada and travels weekly on Nortel business to Miami and Latin America till the economic downturn of the late eighties. In the nineties he leaves Nortel and joins Image Processing Systems, a small start-up company, as President. He is then headhunted by Spar Aerospace - a large designer and manufacturer of communication satellites - to run one of its divisions in Montreal, at which time he moves the family to Hudson, a suburb of Montreal, while leaving two of his sons studying at the University of Waterloo. While at Spar he is appointed President of Sovcanstar in late 1993 at a Board meeting In St. Petersburg, Russia. Sovcanstar was a major Russian-Canadian Joint Venture for the creation of a network of satellites covering Western Europe, Russia and parts of China. Finally, Bellini is recruited as President and CEO of NSI (Network Systems International) specializing in designing VSAT (small satellite terminals), also in Montreal. Later, in year 2000, he moved to Incubanks as President, a high-tech incubating company based in Los Angeles. Part six is about the sad story of his son Robert who was diagnosed with a form of Schizophrenia in his early twenties. Many readers will find it easy to identify parts of their life with some of the episodes described in this book.
