Christian Patriarchy strongly influences most churches today. It has shaped our Western culture. Men and women must address this issue of control, abuse, and inequality that come from mis-translations of the Scriptures. Maybe you haven't even noticed the problem of patriarchy... most people are so accustomed to our way of life, that they don't even notice what is happening. Whether you agree or not, the truth is that most women are dismissed, overlooked, and ignored. Most of the world's nations rules in patriarchy. It is so common that we hardly notice it at all. Amazingly, we need a global view to understand how so many topics are related to this problem. Especially important to patriarchy is the control by men (usually white) of the most important positions in our main social structures: government, state bureaucracies, corporations, the military, the church, and professional duties. The one thing that most religions and all patriarchal cultures have in common is their bias against those whom they deem to be weaker - i.e. some men and all women. For this book, we are talking specifically about how all this became Christian patriarchy. It hurts me to see how patriarchy is again rapidly raising its head. The Government of the Church is very much affected by patriarchy and hierarchy. Patriarchy has caused endless pain in the Church already... and in my life. It tears us apart and pits us against each other. Soon, we pull away from trusting each other. History continually bears out how destructive the patriarchal belief system is. Right now, in most churches, patriarchy rules (at least at some level) - and every day we are witness to this madness without realizing it.
