The governors of Texas and Louisiana begin the process of seceding from the United States. Nancy O'Brien leads her group of students and scientists south toward New Mexico while her husband Robert is tasked with an impossible assignment--figure out how to get the U. S. back together again. In Montana Penny Armstrong begins a journey to find the birth records of her 'adopted' Crow Indian children, Jason and Amanda.
