Irene Shepard
This is the true story of a fifty-year-old spinster schoolteacher who transformed her life, her legs and her lungs when she said yes to a surprising late romance and began an amazing twelve year series of two-wheeled journeys through five continents. Irene Shepard and her husband Burley, in tandem, plan their routes and itineraries, negotiate local laws and customs, and travel through fascinating landscapes. When things don't go as planned, they rely on their collective wits, their patience, and the whims of fortune. Follow them up steep escarpments in Africa, into serendipitous encounters in South America and as they are tracked by military police in Egypt. As you read this book you will discover how biking gives a far more intimate perspective than travel in a car, bus or train, and your appetite will be whetted for travels of your own.
