The new Christian novel by Barbara McKinney, When is the First Lady Ever First, shines a light on the hidden struggles of pastors' wives, from spousal abuse to insecurity to infidelity in marriage. In the novel, narrator Mary Eckles is a psychologist dealing with the sudden suicide of her friend Jane, a first lady of a megachurch pastor. As a last request, Jane asks Mary to provide outreach to some of Jane's fellow first ladies that are dealing with emotional dilemmas of their own. Mary discovers more of God's purpose for her as she connects with these ladies on a professional/personal basis.
