Senate who spent over a decade in ministry, first ministering on Capitol Hill and later pastoring in West Michigan with the Evangelical Covenant Church. He holds a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. He is a writer, a contributor to OnFaith, and the author of several books, including "From There and Back Again: A Novel" and "Understand Emerging Church Theology". He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his wife and son.
