Jeremy is at a vulnerable stage in his life. A buttoned-down accountant who is active in his Episcopal Church parish, he is just recovering from a wrenching divorce when he is set up on a blind date. That is how he becomes acquainted with the lushly attractive divorcee, Salome. Jeremy immediately falls under the spell of Salome's exotic sensuality and becomes so mesmerized by her seductive charms that he ignores the obvious clues that Salome is a hopeless alcoholic. At first Jeremy is embarrassed and repulsed by Salome's self-destructive lifestyle, but he nevertheless becomes enthralled by her intoxicating sexuality. He becomes her supporter, her enabler and her victim during the course of their time together that includes rehab hospitalizations, cunning manipulation, and an association with another man. Indeed, Jeremy's obsession with Salome becomes as devastating an addiction to his psyche as Salome's heavy drinking and cigarette smoking is to her body and spirit.
