Whilst out for a stroll on Sunday morning, DI 'Dick' Barton notices two police cars parked outside the church, in his village just outside Scarborough. When he goes to investigate, he finds a dead vicar - the victim of a tragic accident. But nothing is ever that simple. Barton's investigations soon reveal that two witnesses, along with £20,000, have gone missing, and that the vicar was not all that he seemed. All thoughts of a quiet day with his family are banished. But that's soon the least of his worries as a 'big city' arrives looking for the missing money. Soon Barton has a murder and a kidnapping to deal with.
