He began work in documentaries around the world with Mel London at Vision Associates, ABC, CBS, PBS, American Sportsman, and National Geographic, and moved into features, television, commercials, and more documentaries. He has directed and shot high-end technology and fashion commercials for Neutrogena, Rhinocort, Porcelana, among many others, winning numerous awards, including Best Director and Best Cinematography. He is author of 11 best-selling books on cinematography and digital imaging, published by ASC Press, ARRI and Focal Press. Fauer has lectured on filmmaking at Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Southampton College, School of Visual Arts, NYU, RIT, Kodak, AFI, Cinegear, CINEC, Camerimage, and others.
