Contributor Bio:  Unknown As a pediatrician, writer, wife, and mother, Perri Klass has demonstrated how medicine is integral to the health of families and communities, and how doctors themselves struggle to balance the conflicting needs of profession, self, and family. As medical director of Reach Out and Read, she encourages other pediatricians to foster pre-reading skills in their young patients. While earning her M. D. at Harvard, Klass contributed articles to "Mademoiselle" and "The New York Times" as well as to scientific and medical journals. She also wrote her first book, "A Not Entirely Benign Procedure "(1987), which chronicles her introduction to medicine and motherhood. In the following years she has continued to publish books, essays, award-winning short stories, a novel, and numerous articles, ranging from professional papers to popular journalism and travel pieces. Contributor Bio:  Rittner, Carol Dr. Carol Rittner, a sister of mercy, is Director of the Elie Wiesel Foundation. She is also the editor, with Sondra Myers, of "The Courage to Care: The Rescue of Jews During the Holocaust", published by New York University Press, and co-producer of and award winning documentary by the same name. Contributor Bio:  Roth, John K John K. Roth is Edward J. Sexton Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and the Founding Director of the Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, where he taught from 1966 through 2006. In addition to service on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and on the editorial board for "Holocaust and Genocide Studies", he has published hundreds of articles and reviews and authored, coauthored, or edited more than forty books. In 1988, he was named U. S. National Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
