Bird Tales

Birds have always been an inspiration to artists, poets, and storytellers from around the world. Here we have a few of those stories and poems sure to inspire you to go outside and enjoy the stories and songs of birds directly from their own little beaks. Hummingbird and crane, quail and meadowlark all have something to say and we have tried to capture some of their insights. The author, Brian "Fox" Ellis is a life-long birdwatcher, a man who has studied the science and folklore of the birds and shares his bird lore with all who will listen. He infuses the folktales with solid science and writes science with a fairy tale spin. He has performed at bird watching festivals and nature centers from South Carolina to North Dakota. He has been bird watching in all 50 states and a dozen other countries and regularly leads bird hikes where these Bird Tales are often told.
