We chose the name of the book To Fatyonen, Our Teenage Sister and Friend for a number of reasons. First, Fatyonen is a (prayer) native name literally meaning "God, let her live." Having lost two female children at tender ages, her parents prayed to God for her to live, and he answered. The authors join in to play their part in her life, praying that she will not just live, but that her living becomes a blessing not just to her family alone, but to her generation at large. Hence, the prayer for the book is that as this young lady grows into becoming a blessing, her life will be a positive example to others through the advice, encouragement and challenges given in this book. Furthermore, the later part of the name resulted because she (Fatyonen) is both a biological sister and a friend to both authors. The teenage years are among the most challenging years in life, as one grows into adulthood. In addition to that, it is the time of life where teens need a lot of good advice and counseling because, mistakes made at this stage might live on to haunt one in the future. It is in this light that we pray that Fatyonen and as many as shall read this book long after she is grown past the teenage years, will heed the counsel therein. This piece is hence released to shape the future of our great country Nigeria, Africa and the whole world at large.
