Murder, mystery and magic with power-mad Romans and back-stabbing Greeks
Set in ancient Antioch in 100AD in the reign of the Emperor Trajan, a young Greek heiress is murdered in broad daylight. What seems a random attack takes on aspects of premeditated murder. Was she the intended victim, or was it her escort? Are her rejected suitors as innocent as is claimed? What about her brothers who inherit her fortune? Why is her family so uncooperative? Are the burglaries at the city dockyards somehow connected?
Introducing Captain Antonius Sabas, a Syrian Greek with a talent for keen observation and deductive reasoning. Joined by his aged bibliophile brother, a disowned Jewish woman and a naïve Greek youth, they do their best to untangle a web of half-truths.
Certain secrets from his own past are threatening the Captain's future. What is he running away from? Antonius will need to face his own demons if this grieving family is going to get justice.
