Christine Wonica was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia in 2002, just seven short months after her daughter was born. The 27 year old's diagnosis kicked off an inspirational journey of survival through medical treatments, relapse, a bone marrow transplant, and the long road to recovery. The book is more than just a timeline of a patient's recovery. It's a story of never giving up and finding the strength to "stay the course" even when the odds are stacked against you. It's the story of how the selfless act of a total stranger can be lifesaving. Life does not always go as planned, but sometimes, the obstacles that seem impossible to overcome can be conquered on the wings of hope and heroes. Over the last 10 years, Christine's story has been provided to a number of blood cancer patients and their families as a guide to what may be experienced during a bone marrow transplant and post-transplant recovery. Our hope is that Christine's story may continue to offer patients, families, friends, and caregivers inspiration as they begin their own unexpected life journeys. A portion of all proceeds will go towards supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's continued fight against leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
