Quran Abridged for Families

As the only Muslim family in a Bible Belt town, my parents wanted to come up with a novel way of teaching my siblings and me Al-Islam. They decided that a good way to do it would be during the five daily prayers. Because after responding to the call to prayer, performing the water ritual, arranging ourselves in ranks, and hearing melodious Arabic chants, we were a captive and receptive audience in a spiritually elevated space. And when my father began reading the translation of the Quran we accepted every word as we were filled with enlightenment. But since many verses in the Quran either contain adult content or requires advanced study to understand, every day my dad had to worry about which verses he should read. He would have loved to have been able to just begin reading anywhere knowing that whatever he chose would be inspiring to all-- teens, tweens, toddlers, and everyone in-between.
