Heather Tarne is not a witch - she just knows enough about the world around her to make sense of all the unexplainable things that happen in life. This does not, however, stop Tarne and her friends from bouncing around realities, going from past, to future, to present and back around to the past in a series of bizarre stories which happily stop midway through and later pick up where they left off. If that sounds confusing, imagine what it's like for Tarne. One moment she's negotiating peace treaties for a mediaeval king, the next she's playing a futuristic game of stick-in-the-mud with mutant snake people. As the stories become stranger and stranger, Tarne begins to suspect this is not quite how life is meant to be. When a mysterious figure suggests there might be a reason for all her bouncing around between realities, Tarne looks to her group of friends and suspects one of them could be the cause of all her woes. From spaceships to pirate ships, from detective agencies to super heroes, from Dark-Age brothels to reptile universities, Tarne's travels through reality are limited only by her imagination. Ever trying to keep a level head, she's still (pretty) sure she's not a witch.
