Blue Moon Over Alaska
John Evans
For ten years Sidney Taylor has worked hard to build his investment firm to a profitable and comfortable level. He lost his first firm to his then wife and former business partner. Now after years of hard work and the emotional baggage of missing his estranged children, Sidney decides to take a much needed vacation. Setting off on a cross country journey flying his own small plane, Sidney reaches the west coast, and then flies up into Alaska. There he travels to Fairbanks to visit an old friend, Doctor Leland Jacobs, and his family. After a wonderful couple of days with the Jacobs, Sidney bids them farewell and sets a course for Kotzebue on the coast of Alaska. There he will do some fishing before flying back to the lower forty-eight and eventually back home. His flight plan takes him over the vast tundra and rugged mountains of Alaska. Sidney takes off into less than perfect weather and runs into what was supposed to be light rain storms that quickly turn to violent thunderheads. The plane is disabled after being struck by lightning, forcing him to make a crash landing in the wilderness miles from nowhere. He is off the search grid and far from civilization, and rescue is not forthcoming. With an injured leg from the crash, Sidney has to survive on his own outdoor expertise. Within days of crashing, his leg wound becomes severely infected, rendering him delirious and finally unconscious. He was in dire straits and would not have survived but for an Athabascan Indian family and their pet wolf who rescue him. Lessons learned from his amazing experience lead him to a whole new way of looking at life and love as he makes his journey back to civilization.
