Baby Julia was born in a small town in northeastern Brazil. Her adoptive family lived in New York and flew to Brazil when Julia was only weeks old, anxious to bring her home with them. While there, the family experienced the beautiful and colorful culture of Brazil while navigating the painstakingly slow and thorough legal process of adoption. Being in Brazil for the first time, Julia's adoptive mother, father, grandmother and sister learned how to speak enough Portuguese to get around, enjoyed the magnificent beaches and adjusted their pace from the hurried nature of New Yorkers to the more "in due time" attitude of Brazil. Because of the strict adoption policies in Brazil, the final approval included getting through the embassy and immigration at the airport. With many thanks to the lawyers and social workers, Julia and her new family successfully completed the journey and were able to fly home whereupon she was welcomed by family and pets, ready to begin her life in America.
