It is important to remember that even the most fortunate, the most content, the most sane among us are separated from the least so by little more than a single loss, a single mistake, a single weird day. I implore you to remember this as I tell you the tale of Preston Carter. Preston's loss and his weird day leads him to a voyage from the wintry city of Burlington, Vermont to the Pacific coasts of California, in pursuit of his obsession with a woman he had never met. His is a tale of dreams. Of ambitions and delusions. Of nightmares and fantasies. Preston's westward journey, accompanied by a '98 Civic and his devoted yet insouciant roommate Brett, finds him searching for all these dreams and more. In other words, just another example of the American story.
