Publisher Marketing: Tejasvini is a 36-year old southern Indian doctorate software engineer living in America for the past 10 years. She is married to Neeraj, a north Indian social sciences professor. Neeraj's father worked in Indian Foreign Service all his life and his family lived in and out of India for service assignments. Teja comes from a highly educated family background with parents and grand-parents for school and college teachers. Teja enters the semi-arranged marriage with hopes and aspirations as any other Indian bride to find out that her mother-in-law's thinking is little worse than that of a woman's in an illiterate and remote village of Haryana, and that exposure to different cultures broadened the in-laws minds to accept an American for a son-in-law but not to treat daughter-in-law as an equal to their son. Teja goes through several tens of ups and downs. She even goes to the extent of going for a separation a few times. About four and half years into marriage Teja and Neeraj have a boy, Krishna babu. What Teja goes through when her parents visit her to help with the boy's delivery, how Neeraj's mother mistreats them, insults them, and how Neeraj shows little to no change in his attitude for the first seven and half years. Teja wondered several times that her married cousins and friends living in India in the years of 2000 do not have as much trouble as she does. Disclaimer/Background: The names of characters in this story are fictional and do not indicate any living person. In other words, it would be pure coincidence if a person with the name and a character akin to that described in the novel exists in the real world. The incidents of the story are closer to what happens in the lives of some Indian women in reality. All of them may/may not be part of one individual's life.
